A circular atrium rimmed by annular corridors and guest rooms spirals through the center of the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai. The hotel occupies the top 34 floors of SOM's Jin Mao Tower, which was the world's tallest building (1,380') upon completion in 1998. The hotel on floors 56-87 was also the world's highest. The 88-feet diameter atrium is still among the world's biggest, looping up hypnotically to a clear height of 377 feet.
